Emsisoft AM vs MBAM

There used to be A-Squared free but Emsisoft changed the products now. Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5.1 is a trialware and then switch to free version scanner mode after 30 days if you don't buy. However, it has both antivirus and anti-malware detection.

I used to have A-Squared but it's a big program. I remember a few years back, it was something like 60+MB for a free program, just a scanner and remove. SAS and MBAM (free and paid) always smaller in comparison. The problem I had regularly was the update function and sometimes doesn't work. It's a good program nevertheless. Now I have just MBAM Pro and it's just the right tool to sit alongside my KIS 2011.

The traditional A Squared Free Scanner now comes with the Emisoft Emergency Kit and remains entirely free of charge, still has its own discreet download and has nothing to do with using Emisoft Trialware. I run the .exe as an on demand scanner for my computers and it has never caused either my Vista or Win 7 computers to slow down in the slightest.

Except for the name and the fact that it now has over 5,000,000 signatures I really can't tell the difference between this and the A Squared on demand scanner. Even Task Manager calls it the A2EmergencyKit.

Having more than one On-Demand scanner is always a smart move, specially when they are FREE.
