I got it directly from the MS site. Had to answer all of those questions and register an account... the whole nine yards.

If i delete this thing, I'm gonna need a bootleg copy of it to reinstall. I wonder if there is a key in there? I'll poke around and see.

Edit: They don't let you redownload a legal copy anymore... they say, "Wait until it is released again." Link.

    I think I got it

Check the second line defaulting module jscript. JAVASCRIPT. re-install it from java.com and you should be good to go. but if other errors show different apps then I also have that its called DEP and if you need it I can walk you through it try the java first

    Have fun

Well, I stripped out Java, and reinstalled it. I also removed and reinstalled Adobe Reader and Flash just for the heck of it. Is that what you were telling me to try? I always thought "Java" and "javascript" were two different things. Is there some sort of javascript library/file/folder I should remove and reinstall as well?

I installed MSE on my home computer. When my brother who plays a game tried to open it, the Anti-Hackshield will give an error. But that is only after MSE disinfected it when it contained a virus. Did your MSE disinfect firefox or the applications that slowed down. That may be the cause.

See if the instructions on this page will solve the problem:

Looks like the advice zigzag offered worked... so far. I'll have to see if anything else crashes in the next few days. Still not sure how those files got corrupted -- probably hangin' out with the wrong crowd... those third-party apps can be pretty wild! Heh.
