Of the free ones, use Avira, for the paid ones. NIS 2011 is best in my book. with MSE, I had problems. For scanners, I like SuperAntispyware.

Many thanks :)
Things you'll need:

1. A good AV mentioned earlier or any of your choice. If you go for a complete suite i.e. internet security, then you may not need other firewall s they come with their own firewall component.

2. A antispyware and antimalware like Superantispyware and Malwarebytes as on-demand scanner.

3. Keep windows and other installed software up-to-date.

4. Consider using the MVP hosts file mentioned earlier which will keep you way from connecting to bad sites and vice-versa.

4. A secure browser like Firefox with extensions like NoScript, Better Privacy, WoT etc.

5. Virtualized browser-- Use sandboxie to browse the net. Even if any 'bad' file leaks to your system, it stays inside the sandbox and doesn't affect your real system.

I hope it answers your questions. Feel free to ask if you've other question(s).

One additional useful thing you could install for the Internet Explorer is the McAfee Site Advisor. That is a free toolbar that will alert you if a site is iffy.

The best protection is protection based on layers:
  1. Prevention (all sandboxes and based on policy sandbox software, HIPS, EMET protection for all Internet facing application, HIDS, virtualization software, also Firewalls - hardware/software, SRP - Applocker, DEP, etc)
  2. Detection (AV/AM/AS software)
  3. Cure (data and image backup software)

I've now been with the same one for 5 years and had no virus for 2 years. The simple fact is there is very little in the way of Viri and the like except if you download BAD software...Which I don't...

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Like whs I too use Avira with Comodo as my firewall. I tested these by going to malicious websites and trying to get infected (in a sandbox of course). The two top this year, Avira (free) and Norton 2011 (fee)

Comodo is very detailed so if you are in to detailed work, then it's for you.

Many thanks in Advance

To protect yourself from the evils of the internet your basic protection should include

*Anti Virus Program [ MSE is popular & is used by many people here]
*Anti Malware Program
*Router / firewall

It is important you update programs & scan regularly.

You are advised to exercise caution with what you click on.
Donít engage in activities such as file sharing, warez cracks, adult content, online gambling or other high-risk behaviors.
