There is no difference between Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 security wise. Norton 360 is just like Norton Internet Security, it only has more features like Backup and Performance/Optimization Tools. Why would an antivirus software vendor treat their software unfairly/unequally?

I know this is an old post in the Norton Forum and I was just curious. I have also heard that 360's Backup and performance/optimization tools are "so-so" at best. Again I was just asking I have used Norton products for 10 yrs and am very happy but I never tried 360. In the past I used Norton Save and Restore 2.0 (sorta a version of ghost) for back up on my XP Machines and it got me out of a few jams. I was going to try Ghost 15 on my Win 7 machine but I heard some bad reviews. I ended up installing Acronis True Home Image 2011 but have not had to use it yet to recover from anything. So far I am happy with Acronis it's not to hard to under stand and has a lot of settings you can tweak (almost TO many). I know many here use Acronis so if I have any issues/questions I will come lean on you all

I believe the way it works is, NIS is first to get the updated engine in each annual release. Then Norton 360's new version is released about 3-4 months after NIS, and is included with the same engine.

Ok thanks When did v5 come out? So if it was recent I guess that means for the last few months people using 360 had the "older" engine and NIS users had the most updated version? That might be a good this for 360 users use using NIS can be your guinea pigs

Right! NAV/NIS gets the newest engine before N360 does. But in terms of aggressive detection rates, there are no differences.

I agree with you. Three years ago I began to use Norton again and I am very pleased with the progress that they have made both in their software and in their customer services.

I use their Internet Security software and I haven't had one infection or successful intrusion. My only annoyance is with their constant popups telling me that the software is performing a background check. There is no way (that I know of) of turning this feature off. I have notified Norton and suggested that they consider make them optional.

Norton is a bit pricey though which is why I think to give Kaspersky Internet Security a try when this subscription to Norton is finished.

You can turn those popups off in the newer products. The setting is Norton Task Notification in Miscellaneous Settings for Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus.

Costco automatically knocks $20 off then they usually have a sale for an addtional $20 off knocking it down to $30 for NIS and it usually comes with another Norton program for free, this time it came with Norton Utilities which I used on one of my XP machines. No it's not free but better than $70 u would pay at Best Buy or elseware
