What region do you live in?

You can use this key in Norton Internet Security 2011: $5.99 (I assume it is for one PC).

Prices change on Amazon often: $26.99 (three PCs).

You'll be just fine. Assuming your PC is not infested with worms and rootkits. It's almost as if it isn't even there.

Try for yourself though. They do have trials.

Just installed yesterday and am having problems. After I boot now it is asking for a defrag of my C drive but the defrag doesn't work because of software (Norton's) recently installed.

My xp does not work anymore either. When it tries to boot is blue screens and then tries to boot again.

Everything was running fine until I upgraded yesterday.

I am going to talk with them today to see why this is happened.

My Problems With Norton 360 Version 5

EmailText : I upgraded 3 computers to Version 5. All three run a background scan when idle all the time. The message is Norton 360 Premier Edition is performing a background task: Full System Scan in progress. This keeps the screen saver from coming on.

Dear Dale,

Thank you for contacting Norton support.

I am sorry to know that Norton 360 scans runs continuously when your computer is idle and does not allow the Screensaver to appear.

I understand your concern and I apologize for the inconvenience caused. I will definitely help you with that.

Norton 360 program keeps your computer secure from ongoing threats by automatically running scans on your computer using the Idle Time Scan feature. Idle Time Scan detects the time when you do not use your computer and intelligently runs scans depending on the scan history of your computer. This approach ensures the computer is protected at all times, while leaving the computer's resources available for interactive tasks.

In order to check for the issue, please follow instructions provided below to disable idle time scan, delete the previous scheduled scans and then schedule full system scan at your convenience timing:

Steps to turn off Idle Time Scan:

1. Start Norton 360 program
2. On the top of the Norton interface, click Settings.
3. Click on Antivirus and click 'Scans and Risks' tab
4. Under Computer scans, next to Idle Time Scan, click on the drop-down list and select off.
5. In the Settings window, click Apply.

Steps to delete the scheduled scan:

1. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

For Windows 7 or Vista: Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Task Scheduler. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
For Windows XP: Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks.

2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

For Windows 7 or Vista: Click Task Status. Under Active Tasks, double-click the Norton full system scan entry. In the right pane, under Actions for Selected Item, click Delete.
For Windows XP: Right-click the Norton full system scan entry and then click Delete.

3. In the confirmation dialog box that appears, click Yes.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each entry of Norton full system scan.

5. Close the Windows Task Scheduler.

In order to schedule full system scan at your convenience, please follow instructions provided in the below link:

How to schedule a full system scan in Norton 360 Version 4.0 | Norton Support

Note: If any of the given links is not working by clicking it, please copy and paste the link in the Address bar of your browser.

Once you complete the above steps, please check for the issue and check whether scan runs only at the scheduled timing and not in the background.

If you require additional assistance or still have some concerns, please feel free to contact us. We will be glad to assist you further.

Thanks,

Mustafa Syed

3:02 PM Sanoop: It is one of its features
3:02 PMDale: Your right this problem only started with v5 not v3
3:03 PMDale: It should not run a full system scan every 6 minutes like its doing. The hard derives stay on non stop which is not good.

3:22 PMDale: This is not a good fixed I need to run this in auto mode in the evening. V3 didn't have this problem only in V5. Can I get a transcript of this chat emailed to me?
