    Problem with MalwareBytes


    Hello

    Ive been using the free version of malwarebytes for a few months now and have been very pleased with its performance and was honestly about to purchase the full version so i can set the automatic scanner and stuff.

    However, i completed a scan 2 days ago, and when i removed the threats and it told me to restart the computer...i did so. When the computer restarted and came back up, my desktop was black. I thought maybe just had to get the picture again. then i realized all the icon's were gone too. then searching thru stuff and ALL of MY DOCUMENTS and PICTURES are gone. i run Windows 7 on a Dell inspiron 537s...... so pretty much everything in the LIBRARIES folder is GONE. well, the files arent deleted, i can find them when i do a search, but everything seems to be gone because everything reads 'this folder is empty.'

    I did some research and this led me to find that my service pack 1 was not installed anymore either, so i went to windows updater and SERVICE PACK 1 sure enough was there as an IMPORTANT update needed to be done. I then clicked to install it... after 3 hours of installing, my computer says INSTALL FAILED right at the 99% mark, but then it worked a 2nd try.

    Of course i emailed malwarebytes 2 days ago and i have heard NOTHING back from them since. hope you can help. I would greatly appreciate if you would be able to help me out in any way.

    Malwarebytes does not cause anything like that. If you remove malware with Malwarebytes, that does not repair the damage the malware has caused.

    Your system was obviously badly infected, and removing the malware destroyed your system. You need to wipe the machine and reinstall Windows.

    It is your responsibility to ensure that your machine is not infected, not Malwarebytes, or any other software.

    If you remove a simple virus that has changed something, then it is often possible to get your system working again by removing the virus and resetting what it changed. If your system is badly infected, and various malware has spead itself or caused other damage, your only sensible option is to wipe the system and reinstall it, and then make sure that you do not get infected again.

    Although Malwarebytes will remove malware it finds, the free version is merely an on-demand scanner, it is not a PROTECTION system, it merely informs you what it finds and removes.

    Hi jleone87 :)

    Sorry to hear you had such a bad infection and as by the sounds of it many of your system files have being destroyed / corrupted the only route as Mike suggested is to perform a clean install of your operating system, then you will have a fresh clean start :).

    I understand and know the difference, but what im saying is things weren't infected which caused this problem. when i clicked the 'fix' button malwarebytes actually changed settings in my registry and i just dont know how to change them back. if you google search this, you will find that this situation is sortof common among malwarebytes users. i have a live malware protection with antivir which runs realtime. and malwarebyets is something i use once in a while to get anything antivir doesnt, which has been the case before and this combination of the 2 have been working great for the past 10 to 11 months.

    please dont just write off my problem as a ''sucks to be you '' thing i do not appreciate THAT kind of help.

    I have never had any problems at all with Malwarebytes, and I constantly use it, or recommend its use.

    Malware bytes removes various malware which has changed registry keys and possibly done all sorts of other things. This can render the system clean, but unusable. It is the malware that has caused the problems, not Malwarebytes.

    There is no way to find and repair all the damage.

    If I knew any way I could possibly help you in this situation then I would do so. The unfortunate truth is that there is no way to change the situation caused by the malware. The only sensible thing to do is to re-install Windows after wiping your system.

    I certainly do not dismiss your problems, nor simply write them off in any way at all. What has happened is extremely unfortunate, and you may rest assured that you have my sympathy. I am well aware what such catastrophic failure entails and the upset and problems it causes.

    You may still be infected. Run Malwarebytes full scan in Safe Mode.

    Next try to System Restore, if necessary from the System Recovery Options.

    If no restore point will get before the problem then try SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker, if necessary from DVD/Repair CD Command Line: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

    Finally you can try a Repair Install as a last resort before Clean Reinstalling Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

    See if you can rescue your files using the DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console - Windows 7 Forums

    thank you guys.. and i am sorry if it sound like i was angry Mike, just think there is still a mis-communication tho. the thing is MY FILES ARENT DELETED OR DESTROYED... i can still access them by running a search for them and im able to open them up... it just that they are hidden or something like a setting was changed, and whatever happened made my computer say the the ''folders are empty'' but in all reality, all the files are still working and accessible.

    It's remnants of your virus.


    I know the last post was a few months ago, but if anyone happens to stumble across this thread with the same problem, the fix is fairly simple.

    There's been a nasty virus going around lately that hides everything in your users folder, which makes it look like all your stuff is gone. Click on Start, then type "Folder Options" in the search box. Open the folder options, go to the View tab, and check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives." Now you can see all of your files again. To permanently unhide the files, download and run unhide.exe from here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe

    That should unhide everything on your hard drive.

Malwarebytes Problem

A couple of weeks ago I uninstalled Malwarebytes (Free) from Add/Remove Program. Checking in Program Files x86 a Malwarebytes folder contains one file, mbamext.dll which I tried to delete this morning. A window popped up saying, This action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows...
So I just recently found out a problem with Malwarebytes version 1.44. EverytimeI run it, my resolution goes out of proportion (everything is HUGE) and my colouring goes off (weird basic colours like cyan). My screen also becomes really pixelized (well, I'd imagine if everything comes huge XD)...
