Anyway, MSE is still in Beta and has only 3 to 4 updates per day. Until it becomes fully developed, you can't expect it to be that good yet.
No one here said they where immune to getting a virus due to common sense. Unless you are using a behavioral (i.e. Threatfire) or heuristic scanner then you are always playing a catch up game. Look at the great viruses\worms\trojans of the last ten year Love Bug, Code Red, Explorer, Sir Cam, Nimda, Klez, I Love You, Melissa, SQL Slammer, MyDoom, Netsky\Sasser, Leap-A (Mac), Storm, CIH, Morris, Concept, Conflicker. With the exception of Concept, all of these could easily be avoided by using security best practices, keeping patched and a little common sense.

Common sense, firewalls, daily or even weekly patching of all applications, locking down your system and using UAC are all more important than an anti-virus application.

I actually had a customer with malware on their pc (PAV.exe, says comp is infected and to buy their software) They wouldn't buy AV software from me because it was anoying....

Wondering is a passive activity. Oxymoron.

Just moronic.

In an effort to understand your supercilious perspective and tone of condescension, I read through many of your postings. You have a tendency to make absolute statements reflective of, and rife with, notational bias.

This makes me wonder why you never provide any examples or even attempt a proof.

I'm sorry. I think you misunderstood. What I meant was, how do I get a Skilled Icon below my name cause it seemed and looked nice to me. I wasn't meaning to insult you. I'm sorry again for making it seem so confused. What I meant by my statement is, how did you manage to get a skilled icon under your name for eg. is it by donating or posting or being helpful. Sorry again.

And what I meant by No matter how much common sense you have, you won't be able to stop viruses is that even if you ignore dangerous sites, viruses get to your computer no matter what. I've seen people on this forum say I have no AV but I ignore bad sites and so I'm protected or something like that so that's why i said that.

It's all good, it's all wood.

Perhaps I could have replied in Tamil. Keep in mind that a significant number of readers arrive at this site while driving by - the result of a search for an answer or solution to a problem. One size does not fit all.

By expanding on your answers and providing source references to your proposed solutions, you will greatly increase the likelihood that members will "rep you" - giving you those cool little badges.

I know it is an ego thing, but I am trying really hard to get my next one. And yes, I do have a life.

Have MSE on my system, almost went with Avira and I'm sure it would have been fine. But MSE earned a spot for now. Installed it on another desktop that was infected with alot of nonsece including that phoney 'Enterprise Suite' trogan. Nothing else would even install, but MSE did and cleaned the system, and the source - a usb drive. Also installed it on a Vista laptop with only 1 gig ram. So something with a low profile that works well was in order.
I would think the bulk of members here are smarter surfers then the average wing-nut like my ex wife. So keep her off your PC and stay safe.

i agree, i've always said the best defense against virus and malware infection is safe browsing habits. any of the highly recommend av softwares sill work and probably be more than adequate for all but the biggest idiots.
