So and So has found a critical error

I believe everyone here knows those things that pop up or display a fake window in your internet browser saying there are critical errors and your computer needs to be scanned. I know never to click them and to get out ASAP, but they are very very annoying. I use Firefox with WOT and when I'm on google images and I click a picture at least once or twice a day one of those will pop up. WOT has the green circle on the image, but it redirects to one of those fake sites. One of the weirdest things, is on all these sites if you type in the URL of the site, nothing happens. Am I the only one that finds so many of these sites?

I'm guessing a popup blocker addon might do it, or adblocker. I've come across the fake windows XP explorer window once or twice, once on an iPod, so it was areas giveaway but never that frequently :/

    I've got adblocker (AdBlock Plus)
I get that XP one so often, at least a few times a week. I'm not even searching anything remotely bad, currently I'm searching for Dr. Seuss images for a school project.

Not to alarm you, but most other sites I've just checked say use an antivirus scanner to check if you have any viruses that could be prompting them. To be honest, now that I think about it, if these virus scanners are popping up to innocent dr seuss photos, I'm thinking there may be something o. You system prompting them. I'd recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes

Do they appear if you use another browser? (personally, I'd recommend trying it in Opera, since Chrome is too bare, Safari is slow and IE is unfortunately trying to be the slowest browser ever made (in my opinion))

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
    • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
      1. DDS.txt
      2. Attach.txt

    • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please post both reports in your next reply.

Your not supposed to talk about ad blocks on this site but if your using Firefox then noscript will end that problem for you. Noscript allows you to select witch scripts run and which ones don't. Best add on of all time.

    whoops, hadn't noticed that
Are we really meant to help support the spreading of the causes of half the problems that are on here?
There is a difference between helping people monetize their legitimate websites and websites that spread viruses that can cause critical loss of data for those that aren't as knowledgeable in the area of computers as others.
