I just installed 7 today (build 7068) and followed that up with Comodo. didn't have any problems with the install for Comodo. So far, so good. :)

Just curious, what does this Vista Firewall Control do that's not built-in to Windows 7 already. I mean run this and show me an option it's missing

Why all the need for third party bloat? Reference question above -- what do they do that Windows 7 doesn't out of the box. If it's just a better UI for newbies than that's valid but seriously, as for core firewall features, what do all these goofy third parties offer that I don't already have? Somebody sell them to me cause I've never seen a single thing to recommend them..

Windows firewall only since the RC of Windows Vista + router firewall, haven't had any issues so far.

Well to be honest I don't really know if it does anything that couldn't be done already with 7's own firewall. I skipped over Vista and came from XP so I admit I'm not really that familiar with Vista's firewall or its capabilities.
I was using Zonealarm with XP and was looking for something similar to replace it with for Windows 7. I'm a bit of a control freak with my PC and don't like any programs calling out trying to update without my knowledge.
Vista's Firewall Control seemed like a easier way to do this, although you may have been able to accomplish the same thing without it if your familiar with Vista's/7's firewall.

The whole and only purpose of Vista Firewall Control is to automate the creation of firewall rules.
It monitors all calls to the IP ports and when it discovers an application attempting to access the internet presents the user with a dialogue.
The user can then decide to allow or deny the request VFC uses the response here to write a rule into the Windows Firewall.
It also allows the user to allow the request on a one time basis.
All of these things can be achieved by manually setting the Windows Firewall, VFC meerly reduces to workload on the user in setting the Firewall rules

Hi,
As Barman58 says, VFC is not a 3rd party firewall.
I suppose it is analogous to Easybcd, which is not a 3rd party boot manager.
While I normally use the command line bcdedit tool, I don't need to do it very often.
VFC is useful to me or I would be adjusting the firewall settings manually, sometimes several times a day.
In addition , it pops up when it detects something trying to connect to the net-which WF does not do by default. Many people will be surprised to learn how many apps. try to connect.
VFC is also small (about 1mb) and light on resources.
You could do all that manually, of course.
On a separate note, there seem to have been improvements in the 7 firewall :
When checking with Shields Up! at **Home of Gibson Research Corporation** , I found the Vista Firewall had ports closed, but not all were stealthed.
With 7 firewall , it shows all ports as stealthed.

On windows 7 i use Norton 360 v3 but on Windows XP x64 i use Kaspersky :)
