I answered the phone yesterday afternoon to be told by a person from a particular part of the world, he was phoning from Microsoft Windows and was going to help speed my PC up.
To exclude most of what I said, (expletives deleted) I told him that MS don't do that and that he was an idiot for thinking I would believe him.

Apart from them I do get pestered about PIP compensation.

If you have a good firewall and up to date antivirus and try to go to the same websites, then you won't be hacked.

Windude pal, an antivirus and firewall won't stop these guys ... they normally direct you to remote control software download site which they then ask you to install, this circumnavigates your AV and firewall .... it ends up that the user becomes the weak link and they can remotely help themselves to whatever they please

A/V can stop malware and viruses from intruding, but they can't stop anything when the user downloads and installs the software...

Scam phone call

Just got the same scam phone call today. Caller said he was from Microsoft and they had picked up a large number of viruses being downloaded to my computer. Since I hadn't responded to any of Microsoft's attempts to contact me (he couldn't explain how they had tried to contact me) they were now calling. With a very thick east India accent (nice touch on scamers part) he explained that he had to take control of my computer to fix the problem...I didn't think so...and he hung up when I told him I needed to call Microsoft for verification. I had not heard about this scam and while I wish there was an easy way to find out about these things, it would probably take days, months, years to read about all of them.

Don't have caller ID. I seldom use the land line anymore. The guy really did have a thick India accent. I could barely understand him which irritated him to no end. His tone of voice was really quite rude...very strange when you are trying to get people to trust you. I was surprised at the lack of sophistication but if these guys ever do get very sophisticated I think we are all in trouble.

Latest scam call: Windows Refunds Dept
Called to land line here today. Last week it was "Windows Technical Support" claiming their servers were showing infection by Trojans on my PC. Sounded like a boiler room in the Phillipines. Answered yes when I asked if he works for MS, US when I asked his location. Hung up when I asked for his...

SCAM? Phone call from "Microsoft Windows Repair Support, Albany"
While experiencing issues with BSOD and inability to repair Windows, the Repair Tool pop-up when it discovers it can't fix the issue asks if I want to report this to Microsoft. I chose SEND, and continued banging my head against the desk. Couple of days into this foray and I get a call saying...

Interesting phone call
I got a call today from a gentleman claiming he was from Windows Technical support and that he had some reports that my computer was having problems. This seemed like the same scam call I've had in the past so I gave him my standard answer which is to ask which machine he was talking about since...
