Missing Security Center--botched fix, needs repair

So, I got a virus. This one tried to pass itself off as "windows 7 security 2012." I got rid of it, but it left some problems. There is a red flag message telling me to turn on Windows Security Center service. When I click on it, or attempt to start it via the action center, I get an error that reads: "The Windows Security Center service can't be started". I looked at some forums and, following instructions, opened Services to reactivate the Security Center.
The Security Center, however, wasn't there. It wasn't on the list at all. So I went further into forums, leading to the same problem in the Vista Forums.
I followed the last command given, but I mistyped it. The security center now appears in the Services, but I messed up the path to the executable.

I have 2 questions:
1: how can I undo my mistake and fix this?
2: will this even work for windows 7?

Hello captain indecis and welcome to Seven Forums.

Some times malware does too much damage and the only fix is to reinstall Windows 7. But before doing that you might see if running a System File Checker scan can repair the damaged system files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If that doesn't help take a look at the suggestion by nizbot in this Microsoft TechNet thread.

Windows Security Center will not turn on and seems to be missing.

I forgot to mention that I had tried the sfc scan already. The second option, however, worked beautifully. This nightmare is over. Thanks!
