well every one thanks for participating..
I just need your opinions about MSE microsoft security essential ...IS IT ENOUGH?
well....I also do on-line transaction. will it save my credentials from hackers?
Hi, nimmz. StalkeR thought I could be of assistance in responding to your questions.
On Windows 7, I have found MSE and the Windows 7 Firewall to be excellent choices for me. Both have worked extremely well.
As to protection for on-line transactions, some banks encourage their members to use Trusteer Rapport, although I have read where some people have had problems with the software. That aside, no software is going to protect your online transactions if the site, the credit card company, your banking institution, or your computer are compromised.
My advice:
1. Ensure that you use a strong password at your bank site and any place you make online payments or purchases. Partial quote from my article about Hotmail here but applicable:"The key to a strong password is both complexity and length.
Complexity is not merely adding an upper case letter or an obvious misspelling, such as P@$$w0rd. Although some websites limit the number of characters allowed in a password, the longer your password, the harder it will be for it to be compromised.
Test the passwords you use with the
Password Checker. If your password is weak or medium in strength, make it experiment with the Password Checker adding characters, with a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and keyboard symbols."
2. Use a different password at each site.
3. Although providing a "secret answer" is commonly used as a means of recovering accounts and used by many banking sites, caution needs to be exercised. Using easily determined information as your secret answer, is not advised. Instead, for sites that still use such common personal information, use consistent false information that you will remember.
This is particularly important if you are active in social networking sites. For example, how many people on Facebook would know that your first pet was a dog named Spot or the name of the town where you were born or where you attended high school? (When Sarah Palin’s e-mail was compromised is wasn’t by a hacker but rather someone who obtained the name of the high school she attended via an online search.)
4. Never follow an e-mail link to your bank, credit card company, etc. Rather, type the URL directly in the address bar.
5. Keep your computer updated not only with Microsoft security updates (the 2nd Tuesday of each month) but also with updates for third-party software, particularly Adobe products and Java.
I recommend using one of the Secunia tools to check if your system is missing security updates or has insecure applications. Either install Secunia Personal Software Inspector or, alternatively, visit OSI - Consumer - Products . The Secunia Software Inspector runs through your browser with no installation or download required and does the following:
- Detects insecure versions of applications installed
- Verifies that all Microsoft patches are applied
- Assists you in updating your system and applications
