Security update for Microsoft Visual C++2008 Redistributable (kb253824

Running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Dell 1764 laptop.

I purchased a new BlackBerry 9900 which requires Security update for Microsoft Visual C++2008 Redistributable to be installed. I have attempted to install it withought success. (received error 1935) Dell support advises it is not compatible with Win 7 64-bit.

Has this ever happened to anyone in this forum and if so, did they find a solution.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I am using a Dell 1764 with Win7 Pro 64-bit.

I was able to downloaded and installed Microsoft Visual C++2010 x64 Redistributable last week.

On the other hand, I have not been able to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64). This was a security update that was sent out - because it could not be installed by the Windows Update window, it has kept on showing up as an update. This file is required to be installed on your computer when installing BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 6. I have attempted to install the new DM for the past several months as it failed due to inability to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) file. (I was able to download and install it on my other laptop which is running XP SP3)

I just got home from work and tried to install it from the link you provided and received the following error message:

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
    'Microsoft.VC90.OpenMP,version="9.0.21022.8",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",proce
ssorArchitecture="amd64",type="win32".Please refer to Help and Support for more
    information.HRESULT:0x80070003.

    Need your help.

    Hi Pierre,

HRESULT:0x80070003 means the path used by the installer cant be found

Seeing that the path used by the installer cannot be found then why hasn't Microsoft let us know exactly what path is identified in the installer?

I was shocked when I viewed my update history listing and found the Security update Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable which first appeared as an a monthly security update beginning last April 2010 to today - since that time, it has failed to be installed over 20 times. I did not pay much attention until I tried to install BlackBerry DM6.

I did seek advice from two MS techs. The first gave up and passed me on to someone else who recommended re-installing the OS. Seeing that I had upgraded Win 7 Home Premium to Win 7 Pro and did not have a Win7 Pro cd, the tech ordered one for me which I received Win 7 Pro with SP1 for 32bit and another cd for Win7 Pro 64bit.

I told the tech that I did not want to re-install Win 7 Pro as installation would wife my hard drive and I would be stuck re-installing everything - tech said Win 7 Pro could be installated without having to wipe hard drive.

    I this true???

    Pierre,
Thanks for reporting on progress thus far.:)

Return to MS Support with your questions.
They are after all the "experts."
    {I note they have been generous re the CD's}
If unsure of what they say / instruct ask for clarification.

It is best to follow advice from one source only.
Let us know the outcome please.

They're escalating my problem to their "expert" level and will call me this morning to "try" to resolve the problem - judging from past experience, I'm not optimistic on a successful resolution.

On a positive note, whenever I speak to a tech, he/she puts me on hold while they read the log to see what actions have been taken so that they do not repeat the same actions and therefore waste time.

I will definitely update this post later today.
