MSE and anti malware programs
I use Microsoft Security Essentials exclusively. But I was curious if there is a good anti malware program that can be used that "plays nice" with MSE.
Suggestions? Thanks.

IMHO the top 3 choices would be:
1) Malwarebytes
2) SpywareBlaster
3) Super Anti-Spyware
These will play fine with any Active AntiVirus.
My personal choice is both Malwarebytes and SpywareBlaster alongside Norton.
But many here really love Super Anti-Spyware as well, should its certainly worth looking into.

Why do people say to install Malwarebytes alongside an antivirus? What does Malwarebytes do that the antivirus doesn't?

Thats because malwarebytes is specially desined to catch the thing which antivirus usually misses. Like fake AV, antivirus find it dificult to detect fake AV. I personally use MBAM and suggested it to every friends of mine, because lets face it AV's can't give you 100% protection its bound to miss something at somepoint, in that time you will need something else to clean your pc, thats when MBAM enters in the picture. Also MBAM had great detection rate. Along with MBAM i also use hitman pro, i think a cloud based scanner also comes in handy. Moreover it uses five scanning engine and has great detection rate and quite fast.

I have MSE running alongside Norton 2011 with no problems. I also use MBAM on-demand scanning. Each security suite or program detects in different ways and some are better at cleaning what is found.
MBAM is especially good at, well, malware such as bots, trojans, fake AV, and worms that both MSE and Norton might miss altogether. In other words practice some old advice concerning security..."Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

Hi Britton 30, Its not a good idea to run more than one antivirus in a system. However you can run multiple ondemand antimalware scanner.

Hi gautam7, I hope I didn't infer that 2 AVs running simultaneously was OK. I don't mean that at all. However, MSE does seem to run, work and play well with several other security suites.
As an added precaution even with MSE, I have real-time protection off, but it runs well with it on too.

Still i think runing two av is too much even the realtime protection off. Right now i could not find the source but i seem to remember reading somewhere that av's usually use lowlevel driver to hook the file to scan so even with realtime protection off those driver will still load and might cause conflict. And i don't quite understand why you are running two AV where there are so many ondemand scanner are available which are specially desined to work with AV and to compliment your AV.

Ok Britton30, got your point, this set up may work for you but i still think its unadvisible to suggest to use more than one AV at a time. And since the OP has not replied in this thread i think we should also stop our discussion. :)
