    Microsoft Security Essentials database location

Does anyone know the location of the Micrososft Security Essentials database as I need to set up an event trap to prevent myself from inadvertently disconnecting from the internet whilst any update is in progesss?

Copy and paste this filepath into the Run field, but I don't hold out any promises it's the correct answer.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware

    Hi, Archdeacon.

You can easily determine the pattern of updates by looking at Windows Update History. Right-click on the Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials entry(ies) and select View Details. That will give you the time your computer is getting the updates.

Personally, I have selected an optimum time when I know my computer will be on and Scheduled a quick scan for that time, checking the box, "Check for the latest virus and spyware definitions before running a scheduled scan".

Alternatively, to ensure you have the latest update, a few minutes prior to shutting down the computer, you could simply launch MSE and click Update.

In checking the Change log entries at Definition change log - Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center -- although not guaranteed because each release has to go through various checks prior to approval -- there is somewhat of a pattern to the available times for updates. Note the times when looking at the last six updates.

    01:37 PM UTC
    05:38 AM UTC
    09:36 PM UTC

    01:36 PM UTC
    05:36 AM UTC
    09:36 PM UTC

I expect the consistency in available times is for the benefit of Enterprise customers of Microsoft Forefront and Windows InTune.

    Sawadee krap

How about doing it manually? It doesn't take much time and while the updates are downloaded you can stretch and do some exersises to prevent getting a thrombosis from sitting motionless behind the computer for hours :)
