    Agnitum Outpost Security Suite

Anybody else out there using Agnitum Outpost Security Suite? Their latest has Win 7 support, albeit in a "beta" status.

    So far no big issues:

1 - Had one false positive trojan (see thread Trojan.VB.VZO)

2 - The antispam doesn't seem to be working

The firewall works great - no network access problems. It has excellent rules management, anti-leak and great GUI.

I used it for like 6 months and always updated to newest version. No problems, except that XP would have no issues with firewall blocking everyday apps I use when Vista would force me to disable the firewall completely just to access a online game, update drivers, access from programs etc. it got annoying to the point that I said screw it and got MSE 1.0 and used Windows Vista/7 Firewall with Inbound/Outbound Enabled. Speed and Stability has improved GREATLY since then . Maybe I'll go back to Agnitum if they fix Vista/7 bugs. XP is great but not for Vista/7 yet.

I don't do games but my apps have no problems accessing what they need, nor do I have network access problems. Have you tried thet latest - 6.7.2954? Came out a couple of days ago and is from the beta builds. Win 7 support is provided as "beta", but so far so good. I didn't try the production ones with Win 7 - I was using betas. And I was using XP x64 before Win 7, so no Vista problems.

I've always wondered about the configurability of the Win 7 firewall - does it give you the granularity that Agnitum does?

Ultimately we all need to use what works for us!

I don't think I'll ever have the desire to use 3rd party apps anymore, I've been trying to stick with Microsoft software and hardware now.

The Vista/7 Firewall is pretty configurable but it doesn't offer the depth that 3rd party does, its no Bull*** approach really...

The funny thing is that in Advanced Firewall Settings in Vista I could enable Outbound Protection for Domain/Private connections but Public would cut off my internet connection entirely so I left that Disabled. While on 7, Domain/Public are Outbound Enabled but Private is Disabled since THAT will disconnect my internet entirely...

I have notifications Enabled and though I've only come across popups maybe twice in 2 months of using solely MSE 1.0 and Vista/7 Firewall, I've even started using XP SP3 Firewall/MSE only.

***IMO, people hype up 3rd party protection. Just using MSE and XP/Vista/7 Firewall has proven extremely reliable and quick.

Well, I never got an answer back yet from Agnitum about my alleged false positive, however a I just did a full scan with the latest updates and I'm no longer getting that file flagged as a trojan. Looks like they corrected whatever the problem was.

BTW, Alex, I recently moved back to NY from MD. For a year I was commuting back to NY every three weeks or so for the weekend passing (flying low?) through Delaware .
