Comodo Disables Internet for no reason.

Out of nowhere, I noticed I couldn't access the internet. There was a yellow triangle with exclamation mark on my internet tray icon on the bottom right of my Windows 7. My internet was disabled. I checked my modem, and the internet was fine.

I closed everything, and then exited Comodo. Then tried to disable/enable the local area connection. Internet was still disabled. I then had to uninstall the Comodo driver from my local area connection properties. This worked, and my internet was back up.

However, when I restarted Comodo, it said there was an error with the installation of Comodo. Obviously because I uninstalled the driver. I don't know what I should do. Why did Comodo disable my internet?

Also I Comodo told me that "system" and "svchost" attempt to access the internet. What exactly are these files? I looked around online, and cannot find any information. Why are they trying to access the internet. This is not a question about safety. This is about trying to figure out if it's really necessary. Because if it's not really necessary, then I can just block them.

    "system" and "svchost"

    Hi crimson!
If you tell Comodo to not allow both mentioned files to access Internet, you basically saying to firewall "do not allow me to access Internet".
According to Microsoft: “svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries”

Thanks. That was really informative. There is a process in my Task Manager called "System". Then there is Comodo telling me "System" is trying to access the internet. Is that the same thing? What is that? I allowed the 'svchost', but blocked 'system'. Those were the only 2 things trying to access the internet. Is that what caused Comodo to completely disable my internet?

    It must be...

    Hi crimson!
It must be the same, the "system" process it's your OS process, or kernel, and AV's (antivirus apps) also use this process to access Internet.
If you have suspicions that “system” behaves in the strange manner, or it has .exe extension (system.exe for example) then scan with security applications to ensure safety of your system.

If you would like more information of configuring Comodo, you may want to have a look at this. It's an in depth guide to all the functions and configuration settings:

    http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/C...User_Guide.pdf

As mindinka suggested, it wouldn't hurt to do a virus scan (it never does).

Yes those files have to have access to the internet some may be harmful but most are not with windows 7 there are a lot of system files accessing the internet at all times especially Windows Update and many service that you find in your services management control panel. svchost.exe, the official process name is Microsoft Service Host Process which allows these services to access the internet, Comodo looks at these processes and has rules and definitions which if these are compromised or are doing illegal things Comodo will block these process from accessing the internet. Somehow it seems that your Comodo had corrupted your internet or maybe your tcpip.sys stack setting at any rate do a system malwarescan with Malwarebytes and then totally clean out Comodo using this guide which is not much of a guide but https://support.comodo.com/index.php...barticleid=298 then use ccleaner to clean out registry this is safe to do after a uninstall of a virus scanner..

That system is a fresh install of W7 with Avira and Comodo installed. That's it. Comodo is configured to ask for anything trying to access the internet no matter what it is. It's not going to block anything or allow anything. It is set to ask about every single thing. That's the rules it has. The problem is that Comodo doesn't come configured this way so I had to configure it myself to make it ask about everything.

So when scvhost, attempted to access the internet, Comodo has to ask me if I wanted to allow it. So knowing that particular process is useful, I allowed it, and set it to the allow list. So Comodo always allows that process.

The 'system' process is different. I haven't found a clear answer on why it is attempting to access the internet.

The instructions you gave were for uninstalling Comodo. What is the purpose of that? There are 2 things I'm trying to do.

    1. Figure out how to get Comodo to work properly so it doesn't shut down my internet for no reason.

    2. Figure out why "system" is trying to access the internet in order to see if it is something necessary in order for my internet to work properly, and figure out what it does.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I thought "system" was just meant for timing for the CPU. What is it meant for, and why is it trying to access the internet. I'm not sure what you mean.

I understand the whole situation about scvhost being the process necessary for internet, but still confused about the purpose of system. If scvhost is handling it, what purpose that system have for attempting to access the internet?
