Does anyone know why I get and "access denied" message when I try to stop the process
You will have to do that as Administrator. Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

Your default administer account is a limited one ... enable the built - in account as Jacee has recommend, then proceed with stopping the process/uninstalling the programs...

I don't know if I'd uninstall ... but you can stop the process from running at startup and in the background.
