Not necessary. Usually these updates fix hardware compatibility issues as new equipment arrives on the market or to fix bugs, password resetting being one of them. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then it's not a big deal. Just read the docs Asus provides in your spare time till you feel like you know what you're doing. The biggest thing about flashing your BIOS is making sure you have the right download. Lenovo's docs are pretty good. They tell you to click on this and click on that and compare a number and date. I've got my lenovo account set up to where it knows my laptop and for the past few updates, I just download and install.
You'll get a bunch of warnings like "are you sure you have the right download" and "if you turn off your computer the sky will fall" and make sure you don't lose power and so-forth.
But before you do anything, I would get real comfortable with the Asus website. Get to know your way around and read the documentation. You probably have this link but here ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum-
I recall when I was 17 years old, I knew nothing about how to fix a car, and my carburator started acting up. So I set up this elaborate layout scheme to help me take it apart and put it together. I rebuilt a 4-barrel carburator as good as downtown. When I started using computers in my business, I did the same thing. I read till I'm comfortable and then I dive in fearlessly. Sometimes I break stuff, but mostly not. Here's the thing... Once you do it, you'll know how to do it.
The scary part is making sure you have the right download because the wrong file can brick your bios. Be not afraid. And be like Tebow - say a prayer first.
