    Balon,
I watch your utube, great job It's almost working.

I have tried your fix. the windows firewall services shows up again, but i cant start the services says "Error 1068: The dependency services or group failed to start".

I also did the following from an old post you said to do:
Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
    Right-click the Network Connections entry
Set its Startup type to Manual
Click Start to start the service
    Right-click Windows Management Instrumentation
Set its Startup type to Automatic
Click Start to start the service.
Then start the BFE service first then the Windows Firewall service.

It still will not start. 1068 error
    Now WHAT?

Balon: Thank you for a clear, concise and working solution. I now have a working firewall. Glad I came across this forum -who wants to have to go through a system restore and all it could entail to get back to the status quo?!

    Very grateful.

Balon I also thank your great solution. This problem resulted from a Win 7 Antispyware 2012 infection on my son's laptop. Malwarebytes got rid of the virus (I thought), but unfortunately it affected the Windows Firewall and BFE. Weirdly, McAfee gave me the warning that it's firewall was turned off also. Once I got Windows Firewall and BFE working, McAfee went back to normal. Like everyone else, I did not want to do a system restore or reload Windows, ugh.

    Again, thank you very much!

    Hello,

I've tried everything posted and nothing works.

    1. Attached is the DDS
    2. When I run Base Filtering Engine - Error 5: Access is Denied.
    3. When I run Windows Firewall Service - Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

I followed all the different things to get everything to work and no luck. 2 weeks of trying, Final straw that broke my back was the1068 error. Buy a external hard drive, copy your doc's, reload windows 7 from your restore backup copy from your pc and the reload all the other software.

I will be working on correcting this issue! Please standby for further assistance! Please for the mean time, use Comodo or some other firewall to protect your system!

extremely well executed repair help by Balon, well done and I know a lot of us out here appreciate that,,

for those who are still having issues I would suggest one of the following:

    a. it's possible you have not removed the offending malware, as more than one type may be the issue and multiple types may be present, if you aren't sure you may want to restart the removal process before proceeding as you will be wasting your time.

    b. it you aren't comfortable w/ the backup(export) and import of registry entries and the modifications, try getting help from a more technically competent friend or even consider paying for pro support, it's no sin to admit you are in over your head.

Hi there, my name is Balon and I am pretty sure I have the way to fix your problem.

IT IS SUGGESTED YOU BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE PROCEEDING

    Backing Up Your Registry
    1. Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
    2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
    3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
    4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
    5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
    6. Press OK
    7. Press YES to create the folder.

    Registry Modifications

    Download both the registry files

    bfe.reg

    firewall.reg

Launch and import them to registry

    Restart your PC

    Now,open RUN and type

    regedit and click ok

    go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE

    Right click on it-permissions

    Click on ADD and type

    Everyone and click ok

    Now Click on Everyone

Below you have permission for users

Select full control and click ok

    Now,open RUN and type

    services.msc and click ok

start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

For further assistance contact me here, I will be checking this thread every few hours, this worked for me and it should work for you too.

You good sir, are the man! Instantly fixed all my issues with no hiccups. Thanks for your expertise

Balon's solution wokred without a hitch.

I backed up the registry, i ran the reg files and rebooted. I set the reg permissions. I started the services. Everything worked!

I saw someone else had the firewall issue after Win 7 Antispyware 2012. I had the same thing happen. Once I got it removed this eve ESET Nod32 reported it could not perform analysis on http or pop3 services. For the record this is the first miss I've seen ESET experience since I'd used it (since 2009). So I was surprised when I saw the Win 7 Antispyware 2012 window pop up. Anyway I Googled Eset's warning message and saw forums discussing it being related to Windows Firewall issues. So I went to see if the firewall was enabled and saw...it wasn't there at all. Much Googling lead me here and Balon's fix brought me home.

    Thanks again.
