    Windows Firewall Service Error Code

Hello I signed up to provide a Solution to the 'Cannot start Windows firewall service error windows could not start windows firewall on local computer error code 5.' problem. You can try this with the other error code you get whilst trying to start 'windows firewall' in the services menu.

    The Solution is as follows:

    1. In Registry Editor, browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess
    2. Right click SharedAccess, and click Permissions.
    3. Click Add.
    4. In the “Enter the object names to select” field, type “NT SERVICE\mpssvc”. Then clickCheck Names. The name should change to MpsSvc
    5. Click OK.
    6. Select Full Control in the Allow column.
    7. Click OK.
    Applies To
Windows 7 (all versions) / Windows Vista (all versions)

I will not be returning to this site for a while most likely. Good Luck!

Original solution found here: Cannot start Windows firewall service error windows could not start - Microsoft Community

    Also Thank you Balon.

Hi there, my name is Balon and I am pretty sure I have the way to fix your problem.

IT IS SUGGESTED YOU BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE PROCEEDING

    Backing Up Your Registry
    1. Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
    2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
    3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
    4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
    5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
    6. Press OK
    7. Press YES to create the folder.

    Registry Modifications

    Download both the registry files

    bfe.reg

    firewall.reg

Launch and import them to registry

    Restart your PC

    Now,open RUN and type

    regedit and click ok

    go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE

    Right click on it-permissions

    Click on ADD and type

    Everyone and click ok

    Now Click on Everyone

Below you have permission for users

Select full control and click ok

    Now,open RUN and type

    services.msc and click ok

start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

For further assistance contact me here, I will be checking this thread every few hours, this worked for me and it should work for you too.

After 5 hours of spyware/virus scanning, google & micosoft tips, i stumbled across this post and it worked 100%!!!!!!!. The only problem is i have to go to another site via Google to find the reg files since the links are outdated and don't work so i go get them with links below

    Download both the registry files
    Windows firewall - Firewall
    Base filtering engine - BFE
Launch them,You should get a UAC prompt now
Click YES & Restart your PC

Hello thanks for all of of your help Balon. Quick question: I'm at the part that where I need both the registeries bfe.reg and firewall.reg. When I click on these two links in you post, I get a "page not found". Are those two links suppose to be a page somewhere online? Thank you!

Update: I just found my answer a couple of posts up and don't know how to delete this post. THANK YOU EVERYONE ON HERE ESPECIALLY BALON FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP. It's a shame that we have to dig this deep to find an answer to something microsoft's own forums were utterly useless in fixing this. Im sticking to my ipad. I'm sick of windows!
