Hardly any of the choices seem to bog down moderate to high end powered systems any longer.
I'm adding another vote for NOD32, and am doing so because it identified risks better than everything else I've tested and sits there unobtrusively, silently updating itself 3-4 times a day, without asking for much user intervention at all.
RAM resources seem to be 'eaten up' at just 3.5Mb during an actual scan of a drive, and at around 70% less when sitting there in background mode.
MSE so far satisfies me. I been using NOD32 for several years, but when i got my laptop with Win 7, MSE is the best AV for me, along with MBAM...
* Using the Beta 4 recently.
I used Eset Smart Security 4 for 2 years,And I found it the lighter than kaspersky ,avira, norton ;but now Im using NIS 2012 because I think its the best (I said i think)
NIS2012 is the best in my book. Used MSE earlier but caught a virus twice. And I don't want to tell you my free AVG saga - hands off.
the fastest and lightest av i ever used was Eset until i started playing with Webroot SecureAnywhere. WSA is the lightest and fastest AV i ever used. Doesn't take up much resource and has a lightning fast scan.
MSE followed by Avast free (sadly, Avast free has become feature bloated).
Comodo internet security only using 3,944k and the other one says around 6,912k,not too bad. Was a avast user but been trying this one out even though it's still in testing stages but the firewall is excellent and the scanner ain't to bad. I comodo getting better in the future,so far liking it. Only down side I have seen atm is that the scans do take a while but it's not intensive on the system.
Its true, the "suites" have much lighter footprints now. A few years ago I would never use a suite, now I am using Norton Security Suite from comcast w/o constant guard and it good, I was very surprised at the small footprint, still for some it still might be much but I have been convinced. Prior to that I used MSE which I liked too. Right now it's at 5K, their offering a few years ago would be 25-30K.
