    Windows Defender Off-line Booting issue

I downloaded the software and burned a DVD with it. Works like a charm on an
XP based machine, but will not run on Windows 7 Pro computer.

The booting process starts normally from the DVD, but then it completes booting
from the HD into regular Windows

Has anyone run across this problem? I would like to know if this is a glitch, or
a sign of infection. MSE updates normally, and all scans are clean.

    Thank you

Hi, Laz42. Welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, it is a common problem. See "How do I start my PC from a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive?" on Windows Defender Offline Beta: frequently asked questions

    Problem not fixed

    Hi Corrine

Thanks for the link. The only thing that might have had a bearing on the problem was related to turning off DEP. I did that just to try, although it should not come into effect if the WIndows installation isn't utilized. It had no effect. There was one difference however, The computer started to boot from the CD, then just halted displaying only the cursor on a black screen. The cursor was controllable, but there was no response to any keyboard entry.

Booting from either the CD drive or a USB key is not an issue, Linux boots without
    any signs of stress.
