I've got 6 days left on my 2011 NIS license. I bought a boxed copy of 2012 NIS on special for replacement. (Their online renewal is dearer).
Now Norton keeps reminding me to renew or the world will end... That's ok but it's quarantining activity seemed to have spiked. eg. lists a java script from a reputable source as high risk and keeps getting rid of it. When I read it, it doesn't look suspicious.
Could this be a game to encourage renewal? What do you think?
I went from 2011 to 2012 (well I used the 2012 key to keep 2011 for now) and although I did have the nagging I went down to the last day and did not notice any quarantine activity changes
mjf, I have had my Norton give those warning when renew time is near as well.
I can not recall a spike in activity though, so I honestly do not think thats it. That would be pretty dirty on thier part
But, it could be a false positive due to a new update.
I rememer SONAR flagging the LA Noire.exe as a posible threat for a while.
Then, it decided it was all OK after a update.
If you are positive that file is good, and has not been tampered with, then it very well may be just a false positive.
I haven't had mine do anything like to me come time for renew, although I suppose anything is possible.
May want to scan with malwarebytes for a second opinion.
I don't necessarily believe that any of Symantec's products are as safe as all that in the light of recent confessions from the company, admitting hackers had in fact obtained far more of their code than they admitted initially. If I were using their products I certainly wouldn't be continuing to any longer, even if they offered them free of charge.

It's all about the money....and to those that do use it will have that false sense of security. I won't ever go back and use them. But back in the day when Norton was Norton....it was the best on the market, hands down in my opinion. When you get your palms greased then the next thing you know is, everybody has there hands in the cookie jar and they all want to get paid. It's a very sad thing when politics gets involved in the software business with the best intentions but end up with the wrong reasons. I digress because I'm venting/ranting now...my apologies.
Malwarebytes was fine with the Java script (I checked before posting). I'm just about to install NIS 2012.
I'm generally happy enough with NIS as it is presently. Any proof of stupid games and my business is gone forever.

Well i kicked Norton Mcafee to the curb , I will always say and use Webroot spysweeper + antivirus been running it for about 4 to 5 years now
