Just found this about Facebook. They are tracking all the time according to the article. It's a little date but I can't find it here.

Best way to connect to people you don't see all the time? facebook or google+. Both tend to track you and save information about you. Why? Cause they're selfish ****s. They really couldn't care about you personally, but rather what increases their company financially. I suppose it is the same with most people, though. Sad days ahead. I'm thinking about buying another cheap computer for 'private' web browsing, and using my current one for offline things. I like what these companies have to offer, but not their constant cracks at our privacy.

I've read that Facebook has made some changes to the way cookies are handled in the past couple of months since these articles came out.

I'm not too concerned with these types of things personally.

I noticed that google has been tracking me quite extensively, to the point where all adds were related to local businesses, and all image searches were tiresome and similar, just because of how often I would search using a particular phrase. When I used 'private' browsing, the searches were much broader and of better taste o.0

While I don't do anything that would cause the gov'mnt to come knocking on my door, I still would prefer not to be tracked. And there have been cases where google and other websites were forced to hand over, secretly, information logged from a particular user. Now, that may be an extreme case (think they were terrorists), but its just personal information you don't want floating around. Think of all the hackers in the world who wouldn't mind knowing all there is to know about you, including your credit card numbers and full name o.0

I just thought it was strange their cookies tracked people when their not on Facebook like most cookies. The only reason I can think of is they sell the information. I myself clear cookies several times a day and still find some with SAS in safe mode.

Unfortunately, one of the considerations you have to take into account is, that particular company may promise not to share any personal information with any 3rd party, but what happens down the road, if their policies change or they get bought out by another company that has no such policies.

BTW, it states in Facebooks fine print that they not only have the right to use your personal information, but even if you close down your account, that information you put on there, stays in their possession and they have the right to continue using it.

Just a thought. People who use Facebook and other such sites have no problem with those sites spying on them but jump up screaming to the world that a government agency is spying on them when they really don't know whether a agency really is. Spy on me I don't care. My personal information would be more secure with the N.S.A. rather than Face Book. Google your name and you will be surprised. Now I can remember my ex wife's middle name now.
