Are you by any chance running CCleaner? If so, you need to uncheck the Windows Defender & MS Antimalware boxes found under the Applications tab. This was a similar problem in a couple posts a while back and that was the solution.
+1. I bet this is the cause.

I've had no issues with MSE in the 1.5 year it has been running on my system. If there is a problem it isn't with MSE.

Borg 386 - Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I am running CCleaner each night and both Windows Defender & MS Antimalware were checked. Corrected this and will see if MSE runs as scheduled now. Will post reply in a couple days.

UsernameIssues - I have MSE set to run at 2am but the pc is on 24/7. I have other programs set to run each night at different times.

bru - I too have been using MSE for over a year and have had no problem until about a week ago. I wonder if a update of CCleaner is/was the problem? Hope Borg's answer solves the problem.

I cannot get CCleaner 3.16.1666 to cause any problems with MSE in 2 days of testing and I set CC to clear all temp files, not just old ones. And I let CC clean the registry. I'll be interested to hear your findings.

CCleaner will not interfere with MSE running. What Borg 386 was telling you was that it removes the log file which says it ran. It would be like if you went to work, worked all day, punched out at 5pm, then someone threw away your time card. It didn't mean you didn't work, just that there's no record of it. :)

Sorry that I was not clear. What I was attempting to convey is that I cannot replicate that problem shown in the image in the OP no matter how I setup CCleaner. CC will delete the log file named MpCmdRun.log from the OS temp folder, but deleting that log does not cause the problem mentioned in the OP - at least not for me.

The last scan run seems to be tracked here:

OK......No Joy. MSE did not run per schedule at 2am, nor did it update. I uninstalled MSE, rebooted and reinstalled it. I set the run time to 8am daily and waited. After a half hour I checked and it had not run.

The only way I can get MSE to run now is click the the scan button. Any more ideas?

Yeah, I had that problem a while back...

MSE keeps telling me I haven't scanned in a while

Not quite what the OP is experiencing though.

I re-installed MSE and set it to scan at 1am; it scanned at 2:15am. It waited for a lull in activity/usage.

OK. Everything fine with MSE. It ran as scheduled today to assume that whatever is fixed. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
