My Windows 7 HP laptop has a bad virus.
- If I choose the "restore to default" option within Windows 7 will that get rid of the virus? I never made a restore disk.
- Can I get someone elses's restore disk to do the job?
- How do I restore the files I backed up in an external HD?

Depends on the virus and the way the restore is set up. We need the name of the virus and you system specs.

Update it immediately.

You got FakeHDD? just wondering but have you noticed any files gone missing? This one has the tendancy to hide stuff. I got that and it hid half my computer.
In fact it might be the exact one i had.
Malwarebytes should get rid of most of it and get rid of most of the problems.

I ran Malwarebytes and "cleaned" out the FakeHDD virus. Now I can't connect to the internet.
It would be so much easier if I could just somehow get a Windows 7 restore CD. I am so sorry I didn't make one.

One of the ways a virus is able to re-direct your browser is to set up a Proxy Server connection. You need to make sure your web browser is configured properly. Otherwise, you’ll receive the familiar “Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage” error. Do the following to look for a proxy server connection:
- Open IE
- Click Tools, Internet Options and then the Connections Tab
- LAN Settings
- Uncheck Proxy Server box if checked
If proxy server box is not checked than cancel the operation.
If that dosent work than i would download the unhide program onto a flash drive from another computer run it than start backing up your important files for a possible reformat and reinstall of the operating system.
Hopefully it wont come to that. Ill see what i can do.
About your W7 restore cd.
If you go to hp they would probably supply you with a restore cd I think there was a link on the forum for this ill be back in a minute

If you do this you will probably lose your data so i would still back up all the programs that are important to you.HP laptops come preloaded recovery partition will allow you to create a set of Hp restore disks that can be used to recover all of the original software in the event of a major problem by tapping the F10 key continuously when the PC is first boots up. However, there may be times when recovery discs are needed to restore the PC. By using the Recovery CD-DVD Creator program, you can create a set of recovery discs to restore your PC back to its original condition.
Creating A Restore CD
The recovery CD set contains a complete set of the original operating system, drivers, and application software that shipped with the PC. The Recovery CD Creator software can be used to creat a set of recovery CDs for your computer. Because this software actually contains the Operating System, the Creator program allows only one complete set of CDs to be created. This data that will be put onto the CD is the same as the recovery CDs that you’d receive if you’d actually ordered them from HP.
You’ll need a blank CD-R or blank DVD-R.
