    Whats the best anti virus program you can find over the net for free?

    All you need is ( as mentioned ) Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

    Avast is my anti-virus of choice. Every computer in my house is covered with it

    For AV i use MSE or Avast.

    For real-time protection I also use MBAM Pro (paid), WinPatrol, SpywareBlaster, and Browser add-ons.

    The best (or worst) protection is sitting in front of the keyboard.

    I would go with Avast or Avira and also have malwarebytes,search and destroy and superanti spyware all as side tool to remove infections. Also with search and destroy you can immunize your system so that IE and firefox can get patched to prevent infections.
