I would like to use the included Windows 7 Firewall with outbound protection, but I'm missing an option that I don't know if it's implemented or not.

Is it possible to configure Windows Firewall to ask when a program tries to connect for the first time?

I've been a long time user of McAfee Destop Firewall 8, a simple yet effective firewall that I've configured by simply answering "Yes" or "No" every time a program tries to connect to the Internet.

I can only see two options: "Block" or "Allow"... any help?

You might want to give Windows7 Firewall control a try. Even the free version will do what you want. It complements and simplifies the native firewall. Try it.

If you have a hardware router, which just about eeveryone does, you don't need anything more than the built-in firewall.

Windows 7 Firewall Control in it's free version has worked perfectly for what I was looking for. It informs me when a program tries to connect to the Internet and let me decide just once if I let it or not.

    Thanks a lot

    It did!

My only complaint is about a little annoyance. The program opens automatically when I start Windows and it appears both in the system tray and in the new task bar.

I would like to keep it only in the system tray and not in the taskbar. Is it possible?
