    trojan virus sirefef removal

I have the sirefef virus and the computer reboots every minute even in safe mode with networking. I am able to access the task manager but I can not find any process with the trojan name to stop nor can I figure out which process I should stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anytime your PC is infected with a rootkit, your safest/best bet is a Clean install.

    Clean Install Windows 7

    Technical details

Encyclopedia entry: Win32/Sirefef - Learn more about malware - Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Your PC is infected with a rootkit which writes a cloaked partition & boots from that every time you start your PC. Removal can be difficult and it's doubtful your PC can be trusted again. Therefore the best course of action would be the above mentioned clean install.

thanks for the information but I don't think I can do a clean install because I am not the administrator on the computer. It is a work computer my wife brought home.

It would probably be a good idea to take it back to her workplace, inform the IT dept. of the virus and let them do a clean install.

Here is a list of recent articles dealing with this problem, you can try some of the tools listed.

Windows Security Center won't turn on (and isn't listed)
