<snip> and when I discovered that there was no Quick Scan (AKA Hyper Scan) in the free v2x I considered going back.
    Hi:

All of the previous scan types are still there.
They have been renamed (much to the consternation of some us long-time users).

Flash ---> Hyper (available only to paid users of MBAM Premium (formerly PRO), and generally not recommended for routine use (TBH, it was a user request a long while back that has been retained).
Quick ---> Threat: this is the only scan that is recommended or generally needed under most circumstances, as it looks for malware in all the common locations.
Full ---> Custom: this can be used to scan the entire system, depending on the drives/folders/files selected. Note: routine or frequent use of a "Full" system scan is neither necessary nor recommended, as it will only find "dead" remnants of malware and could cause excessive wear on the hard drive.
Also, scanning of NAS drives is not really supported -- this is a task better suited to one's AV.

Since database updates are issued 10-12 times per day, many "power" users and staff schedule hourly update checks and a daily Threat scan.

NOTE: Scheduled update checks in 1.xxPRO and 2.xxPremium are randomized to +/- 15 minutes of the scheduled time, to balance server load.
With 2.xx, there is a new option to "check for updates before scanning". If you enable that, both the update check AND the subsequent scan will be randomized. So, if you want your scan to occur at the exact scheduled time, don't enable that setting.

    Yes, understood.
But I was trying to clarify the change in the nomenclature.:)

Quick and Hyper as described by @scr were not "right": Hyper and Quick are NOT the same.
    Flash became Hyper.
    Quick became Threat.

As I mentioned, the Flash scan was a user-requested feature that really isn't recommended.
The Threat scan (previously called the Quick scan) is the one that ought be used on a routine basis, for both Free and Premium users.

    Bottom line:
2.xx Free users aren't missing much with the lack of a Hyper scan. What they *are* missing is the robust, real-time protection against zero-hour and zero-day threats often missed by standard AVs.
2.xx also offers more robust scanning, self-protection, built-in Anti-Rootkit scanning, and other enhancements.
Moreover, 1.xx won't be supported indefinitely.
So while 2.xx is still undergoing some tweaks and fixes, users are encouraged to upgrade from 1.xx at some point.

NOTE: Auto-updates for 1.75 users will start to be pushed out on Monday, according to the MBAM Team.
So, if users want to postpone upgrading, they should disable those features in the GUI, as shown in the screen cap. This is for both Free and PRO.

    Cheers,

    MM (just a home user)

Maybe I missed this, but does the free version 2.xx also cause freezes, or just the Pro (paid) version?
To answer the few queries - I first purchased it ages ago and had the disk shipped as an add on purchase. As to where I can get it out here I will have to Google around and the form that Golden snipped is the one I used but it refused to accept what I typed in just saying I needed to answer all the referred boxes which had red asterisks alongside them.

For the slowness and freezing it might be some of the reason of the laptop being so although I suppose it could be that I am running 8.1 on it.

But back to getting it I will try David's link and see what I get.

Ok mate I might try this one although I will be watching it as I know that an Australian installed Kaspersky for example like the one I loaded onto a machine I sent my brother in the UK would not work there but it definitely quotes $AUD's.:)

Hello. I checked out this new version some days ago (the new 2.0 one) and the interface was just ugly I couldn't stand it. Is there anyway to make it look cleaner? The moment it was finished installing huge popups came from the system tray telling me to "your definitions are not up to date! You should update!!" and a "your computer has never been scanned!" pop-up. Why the huge pop-ups? Why can't there just be a small window telling "you need to update definitions" and "do you want to do a first time scan"? I won't bother scanning as it takes 2 hours (at least in the 1.75 version which I reverted back to). I also heard that the new version's scan is a bit slower than before.

Has anyone tried the new 2.0 version and what was your experience? For now I'm gonna stick to the 1.75 version and just update the definitions.

    Version 2.01

    Improvements:
Database is now updated automatically after installation
Notifications are no longer displayed if the Dashboard is in focus to reduce redundant information
Significantly reduced the size of all tray notifications

Reduced the intensity of the colors used for tray notifications and status banners in the Dashboard
Database out of date and scan has never been run notifications now reduced in severity to orange instead of red

    Issues Fixed:
All scheduled scans should now run without popping up the main UI so that users are not interrupted

Hmm. Maybe I should have investigated it a bit more and checked the options. Thanks.
But I will probably wait a bit more before running it again.
