Hum well you folks in the US have it sweet as Newegg doesn't deal out here and I put my only lifetime MBAM on the tester because I didn't know how it would go with the Kaspersky. I tried a long time ago and they clashed but not so on the tester. So really I am stuck with the free.

As for the rootkit problem maybe if it persists then one of these might be worth a run.

I have tried the Kaspersky and (I couldn't add the link because the server is down right now) it does take a while to do but it did and has found stuff that even my paid for KISS did not.

I had no problem removing the infection with Malwarebytes.
Just doing a lot of double and triple checking.

Take a look at this post on the MBAM forum.

It has a link to this site where you might still be able to get a lifetime license.

I scanned img29.jpg several times, nothing was found and no hangs.
I uploaded the file to Virus Total and it shows nothing found in 51 scanners.
Now I feel like I have something wrong on my PC, because this file is "clean"

@ dave Mine is clean too and mine does slow down. I think that there is miscommunication here. It slows down, but the cause is not the malware. Malware was found in that one situation and it did slow down, too
    You are OK.

For what it is worth: I was able to replicate the slowdown inside a clean VM - but I only tried it on a custom scan with root kit enabled and checking the entire drive. I did not try a manual (quick?) scan of just the folder with those sample images. The Vm had MSE installed as well - in case that had an impact.

    It is a relief - isn't it?

When I did complete scans including rootkit cpu usage was 15 to 30%.
I don't really care what % it uses; I just want a clean system.
I quick scans that I do everyday with Malwarebytes don't take long so I never checked the cpu % but I will later. Just curious.

Yea, from what I've seen on the MBAM forum a lot of people have issues with slow scans.
For me, they do take longer than V1, but not enough that I'm concerned with it.
I think there are many bugs to be ironed out with V2 from what I see there.
In some posts, they expect a program update in the next few weeks for issues being reported...

On one system I had a minor issue, ran the mbam-clean, reinstalled V2, and the issue was fixed.
(I had it set to treat PUPs as malware, and the scan report showed it was set to Warning)
