I had problems downloading MSE Updates and I didn't and don't have Self Protection activated. I remove MSE and installed it again. So far MSE updates as it should.
I also have installed MSE and sometimes it doesn't update everyday. I took a look at the mbam thread and he said MSE said he had no internet, but mine doesn't say that. It just doesn't update every day (I let MSE update automatically, I've never used the manual update). It's like every 3rd day MSE has this problem, it has an old virus def version and doesn't update automatically. Do you think this "issue" is the cause of it or is this a normal thing for MSE to do? I don' recieve error messages or anything, it just doesn't update.
I don't have MBAM running in the background, I just use the free ver1.75 manually a couple of times a week. MSE does run in the background and always updates before the scheduled daily scan. If I do a manual scan at any other time I do a manual update with no problems ever encountered in that respect.
I only also have the free version 2 and MSE doesn't update every day. Why is that? I've thought that's just how MSE is, but I'm not sure.
MSE uses Windows Update to get new definitions.
Does your Windows Update check for updates daily ?
I have never changed windows update settings, so I assume I have the default settings. It's set to search for updates at 03:00 at night. Should I change it to search for updates during the day when I'm awake instead?
Is WU set to install updates automatically?
In WU does it show when it last checked for updates?
In Update History are there errors?
I don't think changing the time will help, WU should check for updates the next time you boot up if the PC is off at 3:00 AM...
It searched for updates today at 13:08 or 1:08PM.
There are no errors at windows update history, at least not from this year. From last year there are some but, yeah. No errors from last update. The last update was today, a def. update for MSE that was successful. And all the updates from latest patch tuesday were also successful.
I'd check daily to see if WU works correctly for a few days.
I don't know why you wouldn't get a daily update if WU is working correctly and running daily...
You can create a scheduled task to install MSE definition updates if needed to keep you updated ...
I can help with that, but I don't think you should need it with "Auto Install" updates
I have WU set to notify me of updates (not auto install), so I use the task to "auto install" MSE definitions only, and all other updates wait for my "approval/install" ...
