Component package version: 1.0.690
Release Date: September 30, 2019

Release Notes: Malwarebytes 4 Beta

Malwarebytes Community,

Thank you so much for helping us build and improve your product. The latest version of it, still in the form of a New Beta is available for you to test, download it from this link.

This Beta still only supports manual upgrades from Malwarebytes 3.8.3. In case of any issue with a manual over-install, we recommend a fresh install. We still do not support upgrading from previous 4.x versions.

Please keep in mind, as with all previous Betas from all previous versions, this one provides a preview for identifying possible defects and allows early access to new features. We caution that Betas are not fully tested by Malwarebytes and may include significant issues. We strongly recommend that you backup all of your data prior to installing and using Beta software. It is offered “As-Is” and does not carry any warranties or support services.

So what’s New in this New Malwarebytes 4 Beta:
  • Revised Installer look and feel
  • Improved first time setup (onboarding wizard)
  • Links to Malwarebytes Labs and knowledge base for detected threats
  • Real-Time Protection Global Stats and Dashboard
  • Embedded Malwarebytes Labs Blog and Articles

The Chameleon is great I believe it lets people delete threats easily and lets MBAM run when blocked, small but useful update.

Several years ago I won the paid version of Malwarebytes and it always worked great. I have just updated to the most current version and find that the real time protection becomes disabled at each boot. I have restored Malwarebytes to the earlier version and it works fine, again. Might be a bug in the latest version. To all those that have the paid version, you may want to check that your real time protection is still enabled after boot.

I've updated a few Win 7 PC's with MBAM Pro to the new version and I haven't seen this problem.
I do see some people reporting the issue in the MBAM forum.

Here is one of those threads - post #8 is the post with suggestions to fix it.

Windows 10 64 bit

I checked my updated version. I have a paid copy. After I restarted it did not start or show up in the notification area. As it turned out Win Patrol had blocked the startup. After I authorized it in Win Patrol, I restarted again and all is well.

Windows 8.1 Pro w/Media Center 64bit, Windows 7 HP 64bit

I have now tested it on Windows 7 and it looks OK. The first time I booted it took a while before the tray icon appeared. It may be a little buggy as they now have 2 choices on the protection tab. File System Protection and Website Blocking. I have both checked.

Malwarebytes version 1.61
Malwarebytes released version 1.61 today. I tried to update using the auto update on a W7 x64 PC and it failed. I ran the mbam-clean uninstall utility and downloaded/installed version 1.61 without issues. Had to re-register and reconfigure the options. I'll wait a few days to see if others...

Malwarebytes Database Version
I just ran the updater in Malwarebytes, and was surprised at the change in version numbers, as can be seen in the screenshot. I suppose they may just have decided to use a different system, but I'm wondering if it might indicate something more nefarious, like someone else slipping into the picture?
