In case anyone is interested, I am a beta tester for McAfee and have Total Protection 2010 running nicely on my X64 version of Windows/7 RTM.

Bumped into a bug with upgrading from McAfee 2009 - the registry entries for 2010 are not the same as for 2009 (which also ran well on here), so a few things were not quite right, but that is all taken care of by the 'virtual technician' program...

:)

It even found and cleaned the deliberate "infected" files, I use to test out my A/V software on both a scan and on access.

I still have a hard time getting used to the newer more steel gray designs for the 'security center' GUI, and it's still not like a more usual Windows program, but hey... it works.

:D

Our corporate standard (this is a work owned PC) is McAfee 8.5 and 7i - I had Total 2009 on this PC before, now Beta 10. I have used Norton, both pre and post Symantec...

As for speed, yes, it is quicker at start up than the older versions, but not by too much. It's hard to tell as it is all 'hidden' at regular PC boot time... the slow down as a result of regular updates, scans are not "terrible", but still there.

thanks for that. when i put mcafee 2009 on my pc it didnt like it, slowed boot time (im fussy with boot times haha) and it crashed msn. When i went to install it it said it wasn't compatible but i went for it anyway. shame because i like the interface and its features. Im glad to hear its faster and fully compatible with win7.

Yes, it DOES work on my RTM 64bit Windows 7 system. If you like the interfacce, then that's great. I'll be interested to see how it stacks up against some of the other packages out there, once finally released. In the passed McAfee has been renowned for false alarms and not catching some malware that it should have. Don't know about now though...

Where I work, it is the corporate 'standard' issue and the first of us to get "7" also took on the beta of "Mc2010". They actually release a build of 2009 that worked fine in my 64bit "7" too, but that was only out for a few weeks before 2010 arrived.

It is doing a full background scan as I type this and reports it is 28% though (66,000 files so far) since about 9am - now 10:40am, but I have it working in the background. If I stop typing it'll speed up scanning, if I type, it'll slow down it's scanning and take longer as a result. I need to take a L..O..N..G break and let it finish - must go to a meeting I think!!!

;)

UPDATE: Just left the PC alone (no activity from me) for two minutes and it went from 28% to 30% complete on a scan that will need to examine 140Gb. Does that help you when it comes to seeing how fast/slow that aspect of it works?
