    Windows Defender

Windows Defender keeps prompting me that it is not active when I first boot up the computer and sometimes when installing a new program. Is anyone else having this problem?

I am. It seemed to fix itself this time, but now Kaspersky can't update itself.

Have you gone to windows defender in the control panel and seen if it's on or not?

If you want to use windows defender for real time protection, you wouldn't want to disable it.

Go to the control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services and you can double click on windows defender and stop and restart the service, and make sure it's set to Automatic or Automatic/Delayed Start. Reboot and see if you still get it.

The problem with *not wanting to disable it* is that some AV suites tend to do this on their own - and if they are not uninstalled correctly (or there is an error - not putting the onus on the user, but the uninstallation procedure) then Defender may not get re-enabled correctly.

I have the same problem sometimes and I found a fix.

Just to let you know why it happens, Ill tell you what computer specs I have: Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8 Ghz, 2.5GB Ram, nVidia 8600. This is a laptop by the way, but it is pretty close to the high end (except for the video card). When I turn off the computer and the power profile is set to High Performance, I dont see the Action Center prompt to activate Windows Defender, however when I shut it down with Balanced or Power Saver power schemes, it prompts me to activate Windows Defender. So basically the problem is your computer is either on a low power and low performance mode to save battery, or it is not fast enough to open Windows Defender before the Action Center detects it hasn't been loaded. In all instances I have seen the prompt to activate Defender, it fixes itself without me having to do anything. I found out just now that Defender is configured by Windows Seven to start up automatically but with a delayed start. Maybe setting it to Automatic (without the delayed start) will stop causing the Action Center pop up for you. If it doesn't work, then maybe also setting Action Center to start up automatically but with a delayed start will give your computer enough time to load Defender before Action Center detects the Defender Service is not running yet.

How many use MS Defender with Win7?

I just turned on Defender to see if I notice any change. I'm using McAfee Suite and think this may just be a duplication that it does tyo stop Maleware.
    Is this true or not?

    Should I keep it running?

    Thanks
