AntiVirus for Dual Boot System -Windows 7/Windows Server 2008

    Hello,

I have a dual boot machine with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. I have Windows Defender version 1.1.1600.1 for WinServer and McAffee for Windows 7. Recently I have been having some trouble with McAffee. Will Windows Defender provide protection for both OS's or do I need to continue to troubleshoot the McAffee issue?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Windows Defender will only run when the OS it is installed on is running.
So, for you it will only run when you boot up Windows Server.

Windows Defender is not an Anti Virus program.
It is Anti Malware and intended to run alongside a real-time Anti Virus program.

You might consider un-installing McAffe and using a different A/V such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast, etc...

windows defender in windows 7 is not full antivirus software
get free MSE for your windows 7
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
as for server 2008 it is difficult. because many free for home use antivirus software doesnt work with server os.
mostly only antivirus for enterprise works with server os.
