It's not a dumb question at all. In a perfect world, you should be able to go into control panel > programs and features and uninstall Kaspersky. In that same perfect world you should then be able to reinstall Kaspersky or any other anti-malware product and nothing bad should happen to your machine.
Unfortunately, whenever a program is uninstalled, it usually leave behind bits and pieces. In most cases they don't cause any problems. But if an anti-malware product leaves behind any bits and pieces, it can cause serious issues when trying to reinstall another anti-malware prodcut . . . even the same one. So it's important to follow the official Kaspersky removal instructions to increase the probability of being able to successfully reinstall it.

what about malwarebytes and MSE are they pretty much the same as Kaspersky? or are they any better?
Malwarebytes isn't the same as traditional anti-virus or anti-spyware. From it's website: "Malwarebytes utilizes Malwarebytes powerful technology to detect and remove all traces of malware including worms, trojans, rootkits, rogues, dialers, spyware and more." It is not a replacement for traditional anti-virus or anti-spyware software. It is designed to be used along side those products without conflict and comes in a free or paid version.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
MSE is Microsoft's full antimalware suite which helps protect against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works well with Malwarebytes and I happen to use both. No problems at all.
As far as what's best, everybody has their own opinion. My opinion is the person using the computer will have the most influence on whether or not the machine gets infected. I'm sure others will jump in to try and convince you why their choice of product(s) is the best. :)
if i buy a malwarebytes pro upgrade, will they send it thru it the mail? or electronically ?
If you order through Malwarebytes you would first download their free product. There will be an upgrade option. Clicking on that upgrade option will take you to a company called Cleverbridge. You would send your payment to Cleverbridge and they will send you a return email with your product key so you can activate the paid version.
If you want the actual installation disk it's better to go through a 3rd party seller like TigerDirect. Not only will you get an install disk with product key, you'll usually get a lower price.
