Welcome
The one that is suggested the most and does not cause problems, is Microsoft Security Essentials. Lets be hones all the AV have good and bad points, but I have never seen Security Essentials cause a problem. Most of the others have cause BSODs
Hello ;
In my opinion
The good:
Nod32 (paid)
Kaspersky (paid)
Avast (free)
Comodo (free)
Average:
Avira (free)
MSE (free)
The bad:
Norton (paid)
Panda (bad 'cause it's cloud-based)
AVG (free)
The ugly:
McAfee
I would go with MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows), all my computers in my house have got it, and I've personally have not had any problems with the program at all; it has also successfully removed viruses and malware from my step-brothers computer, and managed to detect a trojan which completely destroyed my dad's Windows 7 Installation. Everything is perfect with the two previously infected computers now.
Hope this helps,
Harry
Normally all anti virus will protect your system, some better than others. Some over protect and want to run your computer. Many just cause problems trying to work with Windows 7.
Microsoft's Security Essentials is made by Microsoft for a Microsoft operating system. The best one is in the eyes of the beholder so I will show you what I use and trust.
Microsoft Security Essentials
Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro
Windows built in Firewall.
Filehippo Updater to make sure other things get their/there security updates.
-----------
They all play well together.
Edit: The free version of Malwarebytes Anti Malware also works well.

Thank you all for you kind replies
Take your pick personally I avoid AVG MSE Norton Trend McAfee
Probably the Best Free Security List in the World
PS Forgot as Layback bear said for Malwarebytes > SuperAntiSpyware and ADWCleaner as also use scanners
http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ < download from bleepingcomputer but be wary of the add ons they are using now.
