Desktop notice telling me I am running illegal Win. 7 software

    Hello,
I did a complete new rebuild a few months ago. I ordered Windows 7 home premium from the Microsoft website and installed it no problems. I have been very happy with my snappy new computer.

A few days ago, upon booting up, my desktop background came up black, and down by the tray was a little message telling me I was running illegal Win. 7 software. I thought maybe I hadn't verified my software.

About that time, my 'Fire Fox English UK' kept coming up 'English US'. I went into settings and the settings were for UK as they always had been. I finally wound up down loading Chrome which works sluggishly but OK. I uninstalled Fire Fox.

All this time I was still getting the black background and message. I can change the background to my regular blue but it returns to black when I closed my browser, or turn off my computer.

One last thing (finally): I downloaded Fire Fox English UK today from the Mozilla UK website and guess what; It downloaded the US site. To make things worse, I am almost deaf and can't talk on the phone to Microsoft about it. Is this a virus?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Angster

The message and black background are an expected symptom of an un-verified install. (you should have 60 or 90 days so 2-3 months to activate)

(not sure about the US vs. UK thing)

Try this tutorial: Activate Windows 7 Online

If that doesn't go then you might need to do a phone activation, but try that first....

    Thanks Thorson

My wife phoned Windows and got it sorted. I still cannot find and download Fire Fox UK.
I have asked at a Mozilla forum.

    Thanks,

when you say firefox us kept coming up though the settings were for uk,

do you mean the firefox google search page .
if so open this link and drag the url to the home button in firefox, google uk will become your homepage...
