Trying to copy healthy dll from one drive over infected dll on another

    Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue with a "missing" dll file - the effects of this error (shown below) is that many programs are not behaving.

I removed the drive containing the error from my laptop and plugged it into an external drive bay and then scanned with various anti - virus programs.

All viruses have been removed from the disk, and I now want to copy a healthy netapi32.dll file (from my desktop) over the "infected" one that is on my laptop computer.

However every time that I attempt to copy and paste I am presented with the screen below:

How can I go about "forcing" the copy operation. I am very hopeful that a "healthy" dll will get me going again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Davo

    For starters I would try
    1) Run a System File Check
    2) Boot in Safe Mode and try to copy the DLL.

Here are a few SF tutorials to help with this.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
    Safe Mode

I'd also make sure both systems are 64Bit or 32Bit if you are copying dll's!

If after doing the scan that David suggested above does not work then do the following. To properly change a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the old file and then copy in the new one, look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

    Hi Bongo & David,

Thank you both for your contributions - I was able to boot into Safe Mode take ownership of the dll in question, rename & then replace. My laptop is now booting as normal. This has saved me from needing to reinstall Windows. Your help is much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
