Well I just downloaded it again PSI 3.0. It did find that MSXML needed updated to 4.0-SP1 and I did so. If you care to you can go on line and find others that had problems at one time with PSI 3.0 but it's been awhile back. I will let you all know how it goes for me.
HammerHead you could just remove all Java and then check if you can do your banking without it. If not you can always install it again. That is what I did and I don't need it. If you can do your banking without Java you should be safer.
I have tried the uninstall. The particular feature of the site will not run without Java. I may have to bite the bullet and do without that feature.
I just updated to PSI 3.0, the 2.0 version didn't detect it needed an update for itself.
It found 3 things for me and I clicked update bbut there is no indication anything is happening.
Microsoft Silverlight was to be the next greatest Java replcement but hasn't got much favor, I uninstalled it too, I found it's only MS sites that used it.
Gary that is why people like me and you try different things before recommending things. I have kept Silverlight because I watch videos on Microsoft sites.
Bob somethings on banking sites like calculators and little goodies like that use Java. I use none of them. Please don't keep any banking passwords on your computer. I do wish their was a good replacement for Java but I don't know of any. That is why it's so important to check for updates for Java if you use it. About a month ago my bank got hacked and they have changed their polices and methods. Java is on most portable things like cell phones. Most never thing of security when in comes to portable devices and yet still go to their banking site using them. Because Java is in damn near everything makes it a great target to create infections.
I emailed the support on the particular site. I in a backhanded way told them it sucked and wanted to know if they had future plans to drop Java. The answer about Java was a canned speech and they had no plans to change. Diplomaticaly worded of course.
But they did strike a blow which had never occured to me. They have a windows add on app which does basically the same thing and runs on windows without Java. So I downloaded it and am going to use it. I can disable and uninstall Java now. It pays to complain sometimes.
I don't understand some banks. Are they in the pretty web site business or the safe banking business. A few minutes checking on line your can find hundreds of banks and many thousands of their customers that are being infected. Billions of dollars stolen.
MSI doesn't always download updates for you. Sometimes you have to download them yourself. Still, that's much better than having to check for updates yourself. The latest version seems to be better at downloading updates than it used to be.
Odd that you didn't get a notice to update MSI to update itself; I did.
