    I found this online:
Open run and type in: regedit
    Navitage to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SOFTWARE
    Microsoft
    Search Enhancement Pack
    Choice Guard

From there, you should see a key with the product ID

Copy that id into the command below and put it in the run
    command window

    msiexec /x (product ID)

It proceeded to show me choice guard uninstalling and now, I no longer have
the window show up every time I log in

The command should look like this:
    msiexec /x {299CF645-48C7-4FA1-8BCD-5CE200CF180D}

Jim hi.. I followed your instructions until.. the SEARCH Enhancement Pkg.. it's not there..that was part of this .. it did un-install ..on one of those things I tried to get rid of it.. however that screen keeps popping up.. when I long on dily or re-boot.
Is there some way to delete that pop-up screen or hide it ?.. would that make it go away ?
    Thanks much :)
My understanding it is a part of Microsoft Live Toolbar or Messenger. Some have just removed the folder and others have deleted the complete Microsoft Live package and reinstalled.

Jim hi again.. well I've just logged on.. there it was again..so today I decided to open it..there was the folder.. I had tried deleting it before.. still came back.. so today I decided to close that and open all of the folders in Microsoft.. there it was.. so I did DELETE it from all the folders.. we can wait to see if this gets rid of it.
Do I really need the pkg. on my pc.. if so then I'll install it again.
I'm already using. Avast...ZoneAlarm.. MalwareBytes..WinPatrol...and Spyblaster ( I only run this ocassionally manually.)
Thank you so very much for your wonderful help on this.:)
    LPt
ps.. getting rid of the whole pkg... may well be what I'll do next if needed.

Make a copy of your contacts and save them in a folder. Then uninstall the whole package. Reboot and take a look in Messenger to see if contacts are there and if not import from the file you made a copy of. IMO
I am not a cert. tech so check with Jim and see what he says.
Sorry to hear about you pop-up problem.

That folder and popup have nothing to do with Virus/Malware and is not part of Microsoft Security Essentials. It is part of Microsoft LIVE Essentials.
I believe it may be part of the Live Messaging or Live Toolbar (which you don't need) which is part of the Essentials - Windows Live. See the link for all the programs that you can install with Live Essentials. Hopefully just deleting that folder will clear it. You may also be able to just uninstall the Toolbar but not sure.
If deleting the folder didn't clear the pop up It would be best to open a new thread since it is not part of MSE.

    Hi,

There is a nice overview of Security Essentials describing a lot of the features and a screencast of the installation: Screen-by-screen Exploration of Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7

If you're after installation of Security Essentials, you can find it here: Installing Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7
