Norton360 UI is unresponsive and glitchy

My mom's Norton 360 Premier Edition program has recently started acting up. When I got the chance to look at it, Norton was showing 2 internal error messages, and also found 2 low risk cookies (adware.webwise). I tried to remove the cookies, but the program crashed soon after. After rebooting, the UI has been completely unresponsive, and the textures glitch whenever a mouse hovers or clicks anywhere within. Aside from Norton, everything else seems to be running fine.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app using a tool that Norton had available on their website, and while it seemed to install just fine, the program is still acting the same.. if not in worse condition than before.

I did a Malwarebytes scan in safemode, but it found nothing. She did mention something about Windows Update and Adobe, and how she was "never going to update again", lol. I have a feeling that some sort of update might have went seriously wrong, but I'm not exactly sure. I'm a little frustrated with her system at the moment, because I just barely reinstalled it about a month ago to get rid a virus she caught.

    Please help.

Did you use Norton Power Eraser to remove Norton before rebooting and reinstalling?

You may want to post this problem on the Norton Community. They may have run into this problem in the past.

There are a couple things you can try.

You could d/l CCleaner & run it after you run Norton Uninstaller & reboot the system. Do a registry scan and see if it finds any orphan keys related to Norton. CCleaner give you the option to back up these registry keys in case they cause instability in the system. Be sure to choose the backup option. The free version of this will work just fine.

I know from experience that the Norton Uninstaller does not remove everything 100% from the registry. For that you would have to use Revo Uninstaller to find all the leftover registry keys. The free version is all you need. If you wish to use this tool, use it carefully & read the documentation as you can easily render your system inoperable. It will, by default, make a restore point.

Also, try running a SFC /Scannow to see if any of your files have been corrupted.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Once you have cleaned all traces of Norton out, reboot & reinstall Norton. If the problem persists, post on the Norton Community about this problem.

Note that in the event you are running 2 Anti Viruses, this can cause problems too as AV's usually conflict with each other.

Thanks guys for your advice. Phew.. none of this sounding very easy to fix, I'm beginning to wonder if I should uninstall Norton and start over with Microsoft Security Essentials instead. Posting on the Norton forums is a good idea, but I'm slowly losing faith in Norton altogether.

    Did you pay for Norton?

You also need to think about how long it will be until the Norton subscription expires. However, if it is becoming a nuisance, who wants to deal with that?

Microsoft Security Essentials is free. It also does not use as many resources as Norton, and is easier on the system.

I did, but it expires in May.

That SFC scan, how do I use it? I managed to open the prompt but I'm unsure of what filepath to search under. Can this step be skipped?

I did run CCleaner and it found many things, namely a bunch of cache. Revo wasn't as user friendly, but it did manage to find some damaged files, I removed them as well.

First let's see if it's even running and installing updates.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe or here http://screen317.changelog.fr/SecurityCheck.exe
    Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.
