WONT SHUT DOWN! not sure if its a virus or not

    Also, just wondering, can you shut down the computer if you press the following keys at the same time:
    Alt and F4


    Can you get to Task Manager through command prompt?
    Enter: taskmgr

    no malware cleaners tried or used yet, just finishing the CHKDSK previously sugested by golden, ever herd about ADWcleaner by explod? i use that for adware and it seems to work good

    i was told by golden or jaycee to delete that info, or x it out, for privacy i guess
    here is another one, whenever i press cntrl alt dlete, after aroung 2 minutes of nothing i get a black screen with moveable cursor and an error box entiteled "failure to display security and shutdown options"
    and below in the dialog box "the logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CNTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. if the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch

    alaska skier,

    Try the following, in Safe Mode, if you cannot get into Normal Mode:

    Click: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
    Right-click the Command Prompt and select: Run as Administrator

    At the blinking cursor of the Command Prompt, copy/paste the text inside the quote box, and press Enter:
    netsh winsock reset
    If successful, a message that the Winsock was reset appears.
    Reboot for changes to take effect.

    Restart the computer.

    What happens?

    just wary of things that say reset, what will this do? also, i can boot into normal mode, i just cant shutdown or run anything, my only option to power off when in normal mode is to force it to by holding the power button
