omegatx,
While you are updating, include all the items found (red) by Security Check.
Otherwise, your system is like a magnet in a bucket of nails.
Those vulnerabilities are bad news.

OK, updated windows to current. The results of security check are below. I will update the Flash player. Strange thing - Security Check states that I need to install Service Pack 1. And Emsisoft will not run w/o Pack 1. However, Update tells me I am up to date. How do I get Service pack 1?

On verifying Java:

Emsisoft is the preference, however, if it remains stubborn, then press on with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Never mind about the SP 1. Now Windows Update is showing the download... weird...

Here are the results of the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Scan:
After I spent 3 hours scanning with Emsisoft, the app froze when I executed the quarantine portion. The app located 9 instances of Malware, all on my external back up drive, some as software downloads, others as mail attachments. They were all old from backups. So tomorrow I will start the scan again and see if it freezes on quarantine. The app found nothing on the C drive or in active processes.
More to come... Paul...

omegatx,
There is a program that provides a means of securing USB drives, memory cards, external hard drives, and is designed to prevent infections transmitted via removable drives. It is called MCShield. (This program has no association with McAfee.)
Download site for MCShield:
MCShield ::Anti-Malware Tool::
Save to the Desktop.
Double-click the MCShield-Setup to install the program.
Follow the prompts.
Once at the program console, click Run for MCShield to finish its initial scan.
Under the General and Scanner tabs, use the defaults items already checked.
Click: OK
Plug in your USB storage device to the computer (only one at a time).
Scanning is done automatically.
When all done, a report is created.
The report can be found by going to: Start > All Programs > MCShield > Logs
If any malware is found, please post the McShield report in your reply.
OK, ran Emsisoft again. It found no malware! It appears that it did quarantine all the instances it found. I have attached both scan reports. You can see all of the locations were on the external drive and were very old (old backups).
What do you think of the app. Would it be helpful to purchase a license and run it as resident. Do you think it would place too much load on resources, since I already have Vipre? Vipre has always stated that you should not run more than one process for malware, because of computer speed and resources.
Will proceed with Malwarebytes & MC2 Shield. More to come...
OK, ran MC2 Shield. Results:
>>> MCShield AllScans.txt <<<
>>> MCShield ::Anti-Malware Tool:: v 2.5.4.20 / DB: 2013.3.8.1 / NT6.1 <<<
3/9/2013 6:37:01 AM > Drive C: - scan started (PAUL_C ~451 GB, NTFS HDD )...
=> The drive is clean.
3/9/2013 6:37:01 AM > Drive F: - scan started (PATRIOT_USB ~30512 MB, FAT32 flash drive )...
=> The drive is clean.
3/9/2013 6:37:03 AM > Drive P: - scan started (PAUL_PBU ~932 GB, NTFS HDD )...
=> The drive is clean.
How should I use this app in the future? Just to check now and then? Should it stay resident, etc.?
