Has anyone tried this software yet?

In this day of advanced technology everyone is still subject to the age old act of getting their loved devices (mobile phone, iPAD and PC tablet etc) or laptop system stolen.
I read a thread on whirlpool forums informing people of this tracking software.
I don't know what it is like but I would love some feed back on this software and is it a good idea.?

They work..... if the person/people who have stolen you phone/ipad whatever, are completly stupid, as soon as they remove the memory card or in some cases even the sim card (providing the application is installed on either of these) you wont be able to track.

ALSO.... pressuming they have taken your Ipad, lapop or tablet (something which requires internet acess) so long as they dissable WI-FI or 3G you will be unable to track them as your device is no longer giving out signal. These programs work the same way in which a SAT-NAV wil, it sends information off to a satalite which translates and shows your location (unless oyou have the same sat-nav as me, then it says miles away from where you actually are ) but if you dont turn on your SAT-NAV you cant look at it and know your location.

If these programs did realy work they would be al over the news Ect. and everybody would be using them, who knows, mabey one day we will have programs that can allow you to sucessfully track one and other, but when we are able to they will be on all our devices from the begining, as it would in turn save the police ect... time and money searching the hard way (if they even bother searching at all)

    LOL, 6288chaeny
Your right, it would seem that this software relies on the stupidity of the criminal turning the device on to track the device.

I use Prey on my laptop and my Android phone :) I think it's an excellent tool, yes there's that point that to some extent it relies on the incompetence of the criminal, but it really can't hurt. What's there to lose?

Software like this does come up in the news :)

Thanks Tom for that article I liked reading it.
LOL, what a classic when the camera took a picture of the prep sleeping on the couch.
I would speculate that as hardware gets cheaper and easier to manufacture. In the future they might put a GPS chip on all computer motherboards run by the small battery so where ever the motherboard goes its recorded.
I see Intel have something similar, but is built into the CPU chip.

Dont get me wrong if its freeware, why not........BUT there are (Sadly) some apps that are harmful. I think its a case of do your reasearch, be 100% certain and be prepared for the worst. Its on of those issues that there will always be non-belivers and belivers...
