What speaks against reinstalling the system from the recovery partition. Just keep tapping F11 after power-on and it gets you into the wizard. Since your files are backed up, you should be good.
    WHS

That is our last resort .
Yeah, but the files are backed up so there should not be a big problem. Just a bit of work. It's straight forward.

But you guys keep tinkering with it. Maybe you have a more subtle solution.

Downloaded both fine - but cannot run rescue2usb.exe as requires Win.

I am so confused. Alureon has caused this because I tried to remove it, is that right?

I still do not have an answer, doyou, or don't you have the Repair your computer option in the Advanced Boot Options menu?

Please select and copy/paste your answer:
Yes, I do have the Repair your Computer option when I use F8 and go to the Advanced Boot Options menu.

No, I do not have the Repair your Computer option when I use F8 and go to the Advanced Boot Options menu.

My backup? No, it's recent - 2 weeks. Does it backup everything though, by default? Progs, not just data?

It did take AGES to save, I know that much. I have never had to use it to restore, so don't actually know what's on there (although I assume damn Alureon will have made it's way in there?!)

Sarah lets worry about your backup later . Cottonball asked you a question. Lets focus on getting one thing done first .

I'm not in the Windows Menu though, ESC on reboot brings me into the HP Menu, options are as listed above (I would copy but it's so tricky on the phone!) - System Info, Diagnostics, Boot Device, BIOS and Recovery.

Please know I am trying to follow instructions, this is basically a foreign language and I find some of it v hard to follow!

If you tab on the F8 key you should get a black Window with white text and one of the items listed should be Repair your Computer ( should be the first item listed ) image below

OK, got here and it listed a bunch of Windows files ... they quickly scrolled, but flashed blue screen exactly as before - and went to same Win Startup Error Screen
