i went into windows defender and it is running fine. went into services and windows defender said its started, but disabled. tried to enable it to automatic, and got "the system cannot find the file specified." also i ran the MSE removal tool and nothing happened. Mcafee was never installed on this machine.

    GilV37,

New update of FRST catering to your issue. Please remove the FRST on the Desktop, but keep the same fixlist.
Obtain the updated version: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
    Save to the Desktop.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button, just once, and wait.

    Please post the Fixlog.txt

Also, please download ESET ServicesRepair tool:
    http://kb.eset.com/library/ESET/KB%2...icesRepair.exe
    ◦Save to your Desktop.
◦Double-click ServicesRepair.exe to run the program
◦If a security notification appears, allow it to proceed.
◦Once the tool is finished with its repairs, you are prompted to restart the computer.
    ◦Click Yes to restart.

    Try to start Windows Defender.

Please run the Farbar Service Scanner once again, and post its results.

Also, please right-click a Command Prompt and select: Run as Administrator...
Type or copy/paste the following commands one at a time, and press Enter after each:

    Code:
    sc config WinDefend start= delayed-auto
    sc start windefend
    Does WD start?

I was able to run windows defender right from the control panel. now it says "No unwanted or harmful software detected". Your computer is running normally.
