    Introducing Bitdefender Antivirus Free

    1) Product Page & Download: Free Antivirus Software - Download Bitdefender Free Edition

    2) Product User Manual (PDF direct download): http://ge.tt/api/1/files/1SHy36U/0/blob?download

    3) Wilders Security Discussion (complete with one of the designers): Bitdefender Antivirus Free - English GUI - Wilders Security Forums

BD Free AV was just released for the english market (it has been available for Romanian users for quite a while). I installed this on my W7 x64 machine this morning and it has been working flawlessly. It is very much a set it and forget it AV that is cloud based. It uses about 100MB of RAM on boot for a couple of minutes and then fluctuates around 30MB and below. It has very little disc I/O, especially when compared to other cloud based AVs like Panda Cloud. The UI is as simple as anything I have seen, and there are no settings to configure. It will auto update itself hourly, do an auto quick scan daily, and an auto full scan weekly.

I recommend using the BD product page that I linked to in this post (#1) to download the product, as some of the direct downloads in the Wilders thread didn't want to install the english version. The user manual is very well written, and gives a ton of info on the design philosophy as well as how to install, manage and uninstall it. This could very well be one of the best new AV releases in quite some time.

Well just looked at the video....I saw nothing at all on how it looks and feels much less any pages that the youtube poster was trying to load up. Couldn't tell if the urls were good or bad or what the heck he was trying to accomplish.

He was trying to navigate to malicious links that I'm sure he obtained from one of the popular sites that post such links. True, I don't know exactly where he got the links, I'm just assuming. You can see how it behaves by the URL scanner doing a lot of the heavy lifting, and blocking access to the page before the malicious .exe loads. He clicked on the very minimalistic UI several times, so you should've been able to see how it looks. I guess we just saw different things.

Wonder how this pairs against Comodos free AV,been using it for about 2 months. Runs good and has pretty good detection along with their free firewall.

Is it true that the free version does not have real time protection?
